Open Our Hearts

She was a strong woman who never met a stranger

If her friends and or family needed something

she’d walk to the ends of this earth to make sure they got it

She like me always put herself last on her list and

never had a negative word to say

When she and I first met I felt as if I’d known her for years

Meeting her was like meeting a friend you

never knew you always had

God knew those of us that got a chance to know her

needed an angel’s light in our lives

So now I’m here with tears in my heart

thanking Him for granting me with the gift

of her presents in my life

She’ll only be one heartbeat away if we

hold on to the memories we shared with her

I pray I can carry on her legacy by

encouraging myself as well as all who  knew her to

open our hearts and love one another

 the way she did and always will

The Rest of Your Life

I see myself as a young girl reflected back at me

When I look at you all I want

 for you is the best life you could ever have

 You, a girl who has one of the biggest hearts I know

 A girl that inspires me to be the best person I can

You’ve taught me things about love

that only you could teach 

You like me at your age can’t wait to grow up

and take life by the horns  

Oh how I wish I were your age again

when my only worry was being on time for a friend’s birthday party

I know you don’t want to hear this but

try to hold on to your childhood for as long as you can

You have the rest of your life to be an adult

Trust me it’s not as glamorous as it seems and

there will be times you’ll wish you could do it all over again 

Damm Good Woman

You say she’s the half that makes you whole

She’s your everything and you

 would be a shell of who you are without her love

If that’s true, why do you try to hide from her?

My dear try to understand your two hearts will beat as one someday and

you two must be strong  enough to tell one another what’s wrong so

you can talk about it in order to put it behind you

 she’s not going to hurt you

She’s been there through it all and still

 loving you is like  the air she breathes

Sometimes she must admit she wonders

if the love you share is enough

The two of you need to stop

letting little things come between you and your love

This damm good woman as you call her at times

wants nothing more than to love you

Baby she can’t be in love alone though

whatever you need whenever you need it

just ask for it

Late Night

Its 2am she can’t sleep and she’s wondering if

he’s thinking about the last time they were together

 a time she’ll never forget

One she thinks about every time he’s on her mind

Though she also craves an answer to the question

Why would he think she would entertain the idea of breaking his heart?

She’s had others she’s loved break hers and it’s anything but fun

Her heart has been his for so long she’d never take it back

Oh God she prays slumber finds her soon

Now its 3am she can’t help thinking he’s got to be fast asleep

While she lies awake asking herself

Is this what love is suppose to be like?

Another late night ends with her repeating the phrase

I love him, I love him I love him

Legacy

Her brother may not be here now

Yet she knows he lives on because

he has become the flame that reignites

the fire within her heart and soul

whenever the embers of

her passion start dying

She is just now beginning to understand

what he meant when he told her

if she wanted her dreams to come true

she would have to fight for them

He also told her not to give up

even if the odds were stacked against her

Her dreams may not be the same ones

she had when he was here

but she’s been fighting for her new dreams

with the same passion he had

She believes if she continues to

spread the messages

As well as teach the lessons

he once taught her

his legacy will live on

in the hearts and minds of

all those who become inspired

by the wisdom he left behind
