Freedom in Words

As she sits here writing she can't help but

think about how far she's come

She was a scared teenage girl afraid to let

her thoughts be seen on paper

she didn't think she had the right

to say what it was she had to say

So she kept her words locked deep inside her head

That all changed with some

encouragement from a few friends

and some hard work she wasn't sure she could do

When she began allowing her words to flow like a faucet

she found a freedom she didn't know existed

She never thought she'd find her freedom in words

Now that she is no longer afraid of seeing her words on paper

she hopes she'll never lose the inspiration and passion

for the writing she learned to love a few short years ago

Like her friends she hopes she

can encourage others to go after something that gives them

the same freedom she's been blessed to find

Precious Moments

Precious moments are increments of time in which one may realize

everything they ever dreamed of just might come true

Their longtime love has thrived on just such moments and

will continue to do so until the day their hearts become one

She’ll tell anyone who will listen they never have nor

will they ever take any time they are together for granted

She believes whole heartedly this is why their love has

withstood the test of time

Do you remember what it was like to hold the one you love

in your arms for the first time?

They just recently got to experience that and

it was heaven on earth in their minds

This was more than either of them dreamed it would be and

they kept praying it would never end

They also found themselves falling deeper in love

as they became lost in one another’s eyes

For her it was as if he had touched a place beyond

her heart deep within her soul

A place inside herself she never knew existed

His eyes seem to let her know he felt the same way

All of a sudden they realized that the precious moments they were sharing

were fleeting fast and they would have to hold the

memories they made in their hearts until

they can pick up where they left off

She will never forget how special he made her feel

If the memories bring a tear or two to her eyes

she’s sure they will be tears of joy

Dream Chaser

She’s always chased her dreams

until they’ve come true

Even the dreams some thought were

completely out of her reach

A reach she didn’t know she had at the start of this dream chasing journey

Through the years she’d learned

as long as she has faith in herself and her abilities

 as well as having  the will to do whatever it takes

the dreams she has will be realized    

It’s time for this dream chaser to chase a few more dreams

She knows it’s taken a while for her to get to this place to

draw from the strength she’ll need to persevere 

Yet she knows if she doesn’t chase these goals for herself

she’ll do it for the people she loves most in this world

Her biggest dream stems from a promise

she made and intends to keep to one of her biggest fans  

 The second is a dream a high school girl

was so afraid of at first

While she’s realized part of her second goal

it’s only the beginning

In turn she hopes her second dream will play a huge part

in that promise she made coming true

For all those out there who are wondering

if their dreams have a chance of ever coming true

Take it from someone who knows

it’s never too late to be your own dream chaser

Light in the Darkness

She sometimes sinks into the darkness

Left by his departure from this world

Loneliness, anger and guilt fill her heart

even though she knows

there’s nothing she could’ve done

She is acutely aware that the pain and emptiness she now feels will never completely heal

The one thing she is sure of

Is that he will always be her light of

Hope illuminating the hand of darkness

that life may deal her

Just like he’d done before his untimely departure to heaven

She will pick herself up and move on because she knows that’s what he would want for her

Why Now?

She wakes to her phone vibrating ever so softly under her head

which makes her jump out of her skin and

in one of those moments when she is the only one

that can hear herself scream as her words are bouncing around in her head she asks

Damm, what do they want from me this early?  

Her next thought is; do I really want to hear this now?

Then in one motion she looks at the caller ID thinking

Oh, they can wait

Do they know she was in the middle of the type of dream

one only writes about in the most private of journals?

Just as she picks up where she left off in her dream

her phone vibrates once again 

Why now, can’t you wait a few more minutes?

She asks the phone as if it were a person

She looks at the caller ID once more and

sees that the call is coming from the same number as before so

in the sweetest voice she can muster she answers the phone

To her surprise the caller replies

“Good morning beautiful”

What he doesn’t know is he’s the one

 she’s been dreaming of all this time

The Why now question is finally answered

I’ll Always Be

You the blonde haired little girl I know and

love with all my God given heart  

The girl who makes me smile without even trying

Your smile I long to see every time I think of you

the one seeming to ask my heart

Can you stay here with me forever?  

I hope you know if I could be there I would be

Your hugs I wish would never end

The ones I cherish in my memory that are brought back to life

 each and every time I hear your voice or

someone speaks your name

If someone were to ask me what my definition of magic is

I would reply “Her hugs”   

  

I know it’s been a while since we’ve seen each other and

every time we get the chance you surprise me

You’re growing into a beautiful young lady

A beautiful young lady I am very proud to know

I may not be with you in person all the time but

if you keep me in your heart I promise

I’ll always be there anytime you need a friend

I will always love you!

Ten Years Since

Can’t believe it has been ten years since

a clear blue sunny sky turned into a scene right out of a horror movie 

A scene I along with many others watched unfold in a daze of disbelief 

Our country rocked due to a deep rooted hatred most at least in my lifetime

 didn’t know still existed outside the history books we once studied       

People forced to breathe their last breath simply because

they were in the wrong places at the wrong times

Can’t believe it has been ten years since

That day taught all of us strength isn’t determined

 by the one left standing  after the last punch has been thrown

Rather strength is determined by the one who took the last punch and

through the darkness left behind rises moving on to the next challenge

trying to keep the lessons they learned in their memories

Can’t believe it has been ten years since

Heroes have been made and sacrificed so much for

this country they loved without being asked to do so 

 To all I say your lives will never be forgotten and

we are blessed because you defined what our freedom really means
