What Do I Really Mean To You?

I hear the faint sound of a small flute playing
In an instant I realize that sound is my text alert and
you have sent me a text message
Oh this can’t be good, I say as I read the text you sent
my hands moist from sweat that has now gathered in my palms because
I have a feeling I know what’s coming next
The message the same as it has been since I’ve known you
Hey Sweetie, I’m so sorry I, I have somewhere else to be or
something else to do, do you mind if I come in late?

I text back, no I’ll see you when you get here
take your time  and be careful
I’ve given up the hope of ever hearing the one
question you asked the first time you were ever late
Can I make the time I missed up to you?

My text alert goes off again twenty to thirty minutes laterThis time your text reads I’m so sorry I don’t know if
I’ll be in at all again I’m so sorry!
What you don’t know is by this point I’m so pissed
I can’t see strait
Your I’m sorrys are beginning to fall on death ears
How would you feel if you had a daughter like me;
who needed help and she couldn’t get it because
someone wasn’t there when she needed them?
I know for a fact, you’d raze hell
until she got what she needed
If you’d do that for her, why can’t you be here for me?
I then think to myself, how the hell do you
ever expect to get paid if you are never here?
Oh don’t get me started on your paycheck
I realize you are entitled to one if you work the hours
As I’ve told you I’m sorry that your last two were late but,
I have no control over that and I’ll tell you now
I did not need to receive your texts saying
you had nothing to show for all the time you worked
What about my gratitude?
I have done everything I can to show you
how much I care
Does that mean nothing to you?
You say we’re friends, do friends discuss paychecks every week!
To be honest I’d really like the answer to one question
What Do I Really Mean To You?
I don’t want you to tell me what you think I want to hear
unless it is the God’s honest truth

Spoken Word Poetry

You may ask why she likes spoken word poetry
Well sometimes she likes the topics these poets
choose to write about
While at other times she likes to view the world
from a fresh and different perspective
Yet she mostly likes this form of
self expression due to the passion it provokes
This passion is the same passion that
flows through her body before she
sits down at her computer to write

Her YouTube favorites list is
full of poems she wishes she’d written
Then she realizes it’s her turn to keep bringing
her brand of passion for this art form to
YouTube so she might inspire the next generation of spoken word poets

Worry’s Love Affair with Me

Worry and I have been going round and round
in a dance similar to a new couple’s first trip around the dance floor
for weeks on end now and I’m getting tired of
Worry’s love affair with me
You’d think he’d get the message loud and clear
when his love for me went and continues to go unrequited, but
oh no it has only gotten worse

This love affair is very different from the one
I share with the true love of my life
This love affair is a nightmare I hope I can soon get out of
I wish I could cheat on Worry with the man I truly love
just so Worry the man who thinks he’s so in love with me
would leave me the hell alone

Sounds a little desperate I know but
If worry loves me as much as he seems to right now
he’ll let me go so I can get back to the life I had before we net
A life where happiness was priceless and
my spirit was free to sore

Worry doesn’t complement me on how beautiful
I am before taking me out on the town
Instead, he ties my stomach in knots for days
Worry doesn’t wrap me in his arms at night
just to reassure me everything will be alright
Instead, I lose sleep and wake to the pile of
stressors he leaves upon my shoulders each day

That’s it I’m calling it quits!
Worry’s love affair with me is over!!
I can’t take the pain you leave behind anymore
I know I’ll see you again but,
when you see me, please pretend
you don’t know me and
I’ll do the same

His Angel

Her name is one he can't stop speaking
I think to myself she must be the luckiest woman in the world
I mean look at him he's her rock when
she needs his strength but
he can be a big kid at other times
Visions of this woman I don't think I've ever met
find my head as he talks endlessly about his angel
He makes her sound like the perfect match for him

I think I’d like to meet her one day
Then I realize I know the woman
he can’t stop talking and or thinking about
I know her well her face stares back at me
every time I look in the mirror
If I’m his angel imperfect must be the new perfect but
I’ll take being his angel over not having him in my life any day

I never dreamed I’d mean the world to someone like him
Now that he’s here I’ll spend the rest of my life showing him
how much I love being the angel of his heart
As I think of where we’ve been over the years
I can’t wait to see where we’re going

The Little Girl’s Fight

When you wake up to the sound of your text alert going off at five-thirty A.M
it’s never a good sign
This morning was no exception
She quickly read the text which let her know
her new friend was at the hospital with her baby daughter

She thought okay the baby just had her first beaver and
her friend had been up all night because
we all know how Emergency Room waiting rooms are
the most efficient places on earth
Although, she wasn’t prepared for what she’d read next
That’s why this poem is spilling onto paper

Dear God she doesn’t know what to say
so she’ll just let her heart write the rest of these verses
She knows she’s asked you to answer a lot of prayers for her
since you called her loved one home
Could you answer another please?

Please don’t let the little girl’s fight end
with you taking her now
The world would be a much darker place without
the light beaming from those big absolutely beautiful eyes
She has dreams to chase and things to learn
She can’t wait to read the next chapters of the little girl’s story

A Little Brighter

It’s amazing how different the world can look and sound
after the stress that has colored it in a dark shade of gray as well as
made the songbird’s song sadder than she’s heard in a long while
has lifted in a way she had forgotten was even possible
She knew her troubles would work themselves out
as they have many times before
Yet she must admit this time she wasn’t too sure
how long the gray cloud would hang over her life

Today when she went out into the fresh spring air
inhaling her first breath of cool breeze
Everything seemed a little brighter
The white of the clouds seemed to pop against
the clear blue backdrop of a bright sunny sky
Even the songs of the birds sounded a little sweeter

If that wasn’t a sign that things are starting to look up for her
she doesn’t know what is
Now she really does believe one must make it through darkness to
fully appreciate the light
She hopes from now on her days will always be a little brighter

Drama Queen

Everyone who meets her sees the image
of sweetness and light she tries to portray
This portrayal can seem unconvincing from time to time
to those who know her better than she knows herself
Yet this isn’t her “best friend’s” pet peeve

Her “best friend’s” pet peeve is that she always seems to be on edge
two seconds from a meltdown every time her friend turns around
All the while blaming everyone around her for
being the cause of her stress and shortcomings
It’s hard for her friend to watch while she’s in that state of mind
Sometimes she acts as if the world’s going to end
if she doesn’t  save it on her own

If her friend could offer her some advice
she’d  tell her to stop letting life get her down
and to take it as it comes
She’d then tell her to take responsibility for her own actions
and the resulting consequences of those actions
instead of blaming  others when things don’t go her way
Yet the most important piece of advice she would give her
would be to stop being a drama queen
If she could do that her stress would just melt away
