Sacrifices

You said we all have to make sacrifices at
one time or another in our lives
You don't have to tell me twice
That is a fact I know all to well
If I had to make some of
those same sacrifices again
I would make them
without a moment's hesitation
Would you?

I'm starting to see that our definitions of the word
sacrifice are very different
To you  sacrifice means getting your way
every time you feel you should
To me the word sacrifice means
putting the needs of others before my own

I can't do it anymore, not like this
I won't sacrifice my happiness to make
you feel better
I  love you but
it's time for me to put myself first

A Raging Storm

The sky is dark, clouds black as coalShe's done all she can to keep her winds and rains
from destroying everything in their path but,
they won't calm
Just before her rage finds its escape
One last prayer shouted to Him

God, please help me!
Her anger at a boiling point
Even if she tried she couldn't hear
His answer above her screaming winds and pounding rains
A raging storm churning in waters of anger
for the better part of the night

Only Nineteen

She seems to be in a rush The same rush I was in at only nineteen
You know the one the rush to
find independence, love and everything else
that comes with newfound freedom
Please slow down letting things happen in
their own time
I know that's hard to hear at only nineteen 
Girl you've got nothing but time
Don't settle for less than you deserve
I did and I have a broken heart to show for it
My mistakes I share with you here
so you don't cause yourself the same pain I did
when I sat where you now sit
Love will find you when you least expect it
It won't be a boy whose only interest is
in what you can do for him
Instead, it will be a man who wants
nothing more than to treat you like the
treasure you truly are

Happy Heavenly Birthday

Dear Daddy,
I know it's been years  since I've called you that
Today marks the first birthday you've spent in heaven
I wish I could call you as I have on many other birthdays
just to hear you laugh as I say
Happy Birthday old man!
As I sit here that thought  brings tears to my eyes and
breaks my heart
Then I wonder if you spent today talking and laughing with
mom your son and God
just as you would've with your girls
as you liked to call us
Or did you sail on heaven's endless blue oceans?
I know you would've sailed on our emerald green waters today
if only you were here
I love and miss you daddy
I hope and pray you're having a
happy heavenly birthday
Just as I pray we all will again someday

That Girl

Imagine you stroll into a college classroom
The professor gives you a look as if you have grown three heads
right before his eyes
Well, it happened to her
What she didn't know at that time was
he gave her parents news no parent wants to hear

He told them their nine month old little girl
would more than likely live the life of a mentally challenged person
Upon hearing this, she wondered if she
should confront him
She decided not to; letting her knowledge
prove him wrong
After that, students from his classes would come up to her asking
Are you that girl he spends the first part of the semester talking about?
Her  answer was always the same
Yes, I am that girl and my name is Teresa
