Anonymous

Why do some people feel the need to bully others?
When I was growing up which wasn’t all that long ago
it wasn’t uncommon to hear that someone had been in a fight
with a bully in school and
the victim was taking a stand against them
The worst that happened was that
one or both got suspended for a few days

I remember the days before cell phone cameras and the internet
when fights weren’t about to go viral with just one click of a mouse
What happened to that saying our parents drilled into our heads?
If you can’t say anything nice
don’t say anything at all

Now bullying can happen
anywhere one can find an internet connection
Bullies can post anything they want online
all while being under an anonymous cover

Do we still believe in the saying
sticks and stones may break my bones but
words will never hurt me?
Well, I’m telling you I don’t
All we have to do these days is
watch the news so we can see how untrue that saying really is
If we’re not careful words can kill

To those that are bullying others
I say put yourself in the other person’s shoes
Would you like it if they were bullying you?
Here’s another piece of advice
If you wouldn’t say what you’re about to
post to someone’s face
don’t post it

Lazy Sunday

Its Sunday yet again and
she has no schedule to keep
For the first time in a long while
Sunday morning feels like heaven
There are a few people that could turn this lazy Sunday
into a day she won’t soon forget
If you know her you know who she’s thinking of

Her bed seems to have a hold on her
one she neither cares to or wants to break but
the poems she loves to write won’t let her fall back into dreams
She tries to shake them away but
like unwelcomed guests they refuse to be ignored

As she wonders why now her phone rings
only to have a voice she knows well ask
“Did I wake you?”
So she now has a mission
she must take part in
There goes her lazy Sunday
until next week

Scars of the Heart

She knows a thing or two about scars of the heart
Some may ask how she knows so much because
she is only a baby by their standards
Well to those who don’t seem to take her at her word
when it comes to this issue, she has one thing to say
Believe what you will, I know what I’ve lived

Scars leave deep impressions on one’s heart
that never fully heal which can serve as a
heartache that colors one’s judgment of love
The pain one may feel could make them avoid
the love she believes everyone should
get at least one chance to experience in life

If you’re afraid of the blissful state that love can be
As she once was because of the scars of your heart
try forgiving the ones who put them there
Although she knows forgiving the one that
hurt you is easier said than done at times but
once you do, they lose their hold on you
You may then find the true love you
were always meant to have

He Loves Me Anyway

Some say I’m such a woman
my response is more often than not
“It takes one to know one”
I’m not going to lie my favorite colors are pink and purple
I know don’t say it, the favorite colors of
the typical girl, but
here’s something you may not know
He loves me anyway

Okay so I watch a romantic movie
Some have even called them chick flicks
from time to time and
find myself wishing life were more like the movie
I’m watching
Sometimes I cry for what
others see as no reason yet
My tears don’t make him run for cover
Instead he tells me it will be alright
that’s when I know he loves me anyway

On the days I act like one of Hell’s angels
wanting to rip someone’s head off
He lets me vent for as long as I need to
When I realize I’m just acting out of anger and
I owe him an apology he reminds me what love is
Then he tells me he loves me anyway

Shine

Like many who are using this day to reflect
upon their memories of this superstar’s life
A life they say is gone too soon
She is remembering where she was the first time
she heard this songbird’s beautiful voice
A memory she had all but forgotten
until she heard the sad news

The memory is of a six year old girl lying in a hospital bed
wondering if the pain would ever end
Then she heard the song she’d play
over and over again
Like the title of her first favorite song conveys to listeners
She learned what The Greatest Love of All really was
That song is about one learning to love themselves
before learning to love another

In that six week period through the music of that
beautifully captivating voice
The little girl found the strength to
endure and pull through, all God placed in front of her
She also found herself dreaming of meeting
the star who would shine throughout
her childhood and beyond

Oh Whitney, how I wish you were here
you seemed to be getting back to
where you once were
Now you’re back in God’s presents
where you will shine brighter than your
earthly star ever could

I’m only going to remember the beautiful musical legacy
you left behind
To me that’s all that matters and
all that should matter from this point on

Love’s Promise

Valentine’s Day is fast approaching
Their hearts only one half of a beat but
when they're together the beats, beat as one and
this day of hearts is the perfect day for them to
listen to their own heart beats
So that’s what she’ll do
While trying not to let tears fall

Even though she knows they
won’t be in each other’s arms
Her wish for him is that
the memories of Valentine’s Days past
will find his heart wrapping it in the warmth of her love

She hopes love’s promise allows her
to dream of Valentine’s Days to come
In the end making their love stronger
then they could’ve imagined

Player

Man, you ain’t fooling me with
your poor attempts at swagger
Tryin to be as smooth as silk but this country girl
thinks you’re rough round the edges to say the least
Player , I’m not just any woman I’m the one you say
you want and only wish you could have
You can’t just walk into my life expecting me to drop everythang
just because you say that’s the way it has to be

There’s only one beautiful irony
in this weird moment we are now sharing
Before you ask me what the irony is
I have one question
Don’t you see the rang on my left hand?
I see your next question forming in your mind
so I’ll answer it before you ask
Yes I love him and wouldn’t spend one second thinking bout leavin

As you try to win my heart over you
say things I hear when I lay my head on the pillow
next to his every night where I wanna stay
You tell me we could have our own fairytale
I know players like you, when the next pretty thang
comes along you’ll be gone trust me

Black and White

Alone, she reflects on several conversations
she’s had with someone she use to consider a friend
She finds it weird that a person of her age
only sees situations in a context of black and white and
really believes she is the only one who could ever be right
Is it just her, or should people realize every situation also
contains many shades of gray?

As she continues her contemplation she
finds herself wondering if God will ever grant this friend
the wisdom to ask, Is it more important for me to be right or
more important to be happy?
That’s a question she can’t answer
rather you must answer it for yourself

This poet believes it is this black and white thinking that
causes so much struggle between this so called friend and her loved ones
Life is too short, stop all the drama
In the end God doesn’t ask
how many times you were right but
He may ask if you were happy
What is your response going to be?
