The Other Woman

You say men do it all the time 
sleep with women for one thing and one thing only
Then the next morning they forget them
at least until  they need a warm body to
remind them how a woman feels
You ask yourself why can’t I be like those men?

Well, here’s how I see the situation
You’re a beautiful woman who’s looking for love
in all the wrong places
A woman who deserves more than
you give yourself credit for
You deserve to be a man’s princess
if that’s what you choose 
Why would you settle for a man’s second best? 
Why be the other woman?

 

To All My Sisters

Sisters aren’t just little girls who at one time or another
want to be just like you
They aren’t just little girls who annoy you
with countless why this and why that questions
If you’re lucky like I’ve been
God will bring you sisters you never thought you’d meet
at different points in your life


To all my sisters I would like to say
thank you for all you’ve taught me and
for all the love you’ve shown
I’m proud of the women you are
All my sisters have held and will continue to hold
their own special places in my heart
Just in case I haven’t told you lately
I love you all

One Moment

Life sometimes has a weird way of showing
you even when you’re lost and
can’t seem to rise above your pain
There is someone who has it worse
then you could’ve imagined for yourself
Yet some people have no way to change
what’s happening to them

In one moment the realization that
her mother has cancer but
God may still grant her a miracle
hit her like a ton of bricks
She is here to tell you now
if He calls her mother home
she will be heartbroken
Though it is through that pain and
everything her mother has been teaching her
throughout the years that
she will gain the strength to pick herself up and
dust herself off moving on

She knows her mother wouldn’t want her trapped
in grief for the rest of her life so
she’ll do what she can to make her proud
Maybe then the mother she loves
can look God in the eye, smile and say
I raised two great women
Don’t you think?

A documentary on the hardships in Africa
She saw young children caring for themselves and
their families because their caregivers were
sick or dying from illnesses related to HIV/AIDS
Her heart goes out to those children and she
will keep them in her prayers

For the first time she thanked God for showing
her she doesn’t really have it all that bad
and at least she can carry on and be proud of
the legacy her mother will leave behind one day

Yours

My heart is broken in pieces but
I know the broken pieces will mend if
I put them in your hands so
with faith I give you this heart you created for me
God, here’s my heart
As you know my love his been and
will continue to be  yours forever

You see the tears I cry and
the ones trapped behind my eyes          
Like my heart these tears are yours
dry them If you wish or let
them fall teaching me lessons along the way        

I may not understand what
you have in store for me or those I love
As I’ve always said you never give us
more than we can handle
The will is yours and
I’ll have faith no matter
 what your plans are

Single Rose

When you first met your single rose
she was sweet, but green round the gills as they say
Innocence dripped like morning dew from her fragile pedals and
in love was a great place to be  
To her well, love oh love meant forever 
She was getting ready to blossom taking her first steps
into a world that at times has been cold and cruel
All the while with newfound strength

she was there for you whenever you needed her     

Well my dear, a few years have passed
Her life not the carefree one you’re used to
Love has changed in her eyes
For her it hasn’t been the same
You‘re used to your single rose being the
roots that keep you grounded and safe

from all the heartache in the world

Baby you have been so wrapped up in your life
You can only see what you want through the rose colored glasses
you have chosen to wear  
How can she shield you from pain when
her heart ache is this bad?
She needs someone to be her single rose and
she loves you, and always will but
she’s so sorry you just aren’t the one

 

 

Forever Changed

She didn’t think she’d be here
In this place where she’d have to grow up
and be the woman everyone told her she could be
at least not this soon
Now she knows she can be that woman
the one who has to be strong when her tears want
nothing more than to fall for hours on end
Like many moments of her past have done
she is and always will be forever changed

Now she’s in a place where the strongest woman
she’s ever known is praying that the cancer she’s
trying to beat doesn’t take her from this world
So far as she can tell the strongest woman
she knows and loves is winning the battle
for her life
The love she feels for this woman makes her
do everything she can for a mother who would
do and has done nothing less for her

People have asked if her faith is shaken
She’d be the first to admit there have been times
thoughts of a life without her have made this daughter
wish she could take her place
It’s weird but her faith has only gotten stronger
her relationship with God has forever changed again
If it weren’t for Him she wouldn’t be here to take care of
the mother whom will never be far from her thoughts

Love Story

We are used to hearing the typical love story

you know the kind

The kind traditional fairytales are made of

When boy meets girl then falls in love and

in the end, they get married with the hope that

the bond they share will last forever

The love story she is about to put to paper is not typical

This one is the story of two women who like the

boy meets girl scenario met, fell in love

Then after fighting for what they believe in

they got married inspiring her more than they may ever know

Showing her and others that love doesn't take just one form

Yet unlike the typical love story theirs doesn't end there

You see these two want it all

They want to be mothers and

she, well she can't blame them

This inspires her too

She hopes all their dreams come true and

she can't wait to see what happens next
