The Little Girl’s Fight

When you wake up to the sound of your text alert going off at five-thirty A.M
it’s never a good sign
This morning was no exception
She quickly read the text which let her know
her new friend was at the hospital with her baby daughter

She thought okay the baby just had her first beaver and
her friend had been up all night because
we all know how Emergency Room waiting rooms are
the most efficient places on earth
Although, she wasn’t prepared for what she’d read next
That’s why this poem is spilling onto paper

Dear God she doesn’t know what to say
so she’ll just let her heart write the rest of these verses
She knows she’s asked you to answer a lot of prayers for her
since you called her loved one home
Could you answer another please?

Please don’t let the little girl’s fight end
with you taking her now
The world would be a much darker place without
the light beaming from those big absolutely beautiful eyes
She has dreams to chase and things to learn
She can’t wait to read the next chapters of the little girl’s story
