Fourth of July Fireworks

The day begins just before dawn

as two lovers go to the beach

to share some long awaited time together

As the sun rises to greet the pale blue sky

they find themselves playing in the cool water

like two children whose mothers got them exactly   

what they wanted for Christmas

Not wanting their day to ever end

they retreat to the warmth of the sand to

gaze up at the clouds and take advantage of

the opportunity to hold one another close

A few hours later they find themselves intertwined

sharing a passionate kiss or two here and there

All the while knowing their bodies ache

for something more  

By nightfall she gazes deep into his soul

and with her touch the fires of their passion are ignited almost instantaneously 

They try to resist but the heat of the night

drives them to fulfill each other in ways they’ve only dreamt of

As particles of red, white and blue explode into the sky above

they experience an explosion of pure ecstasy    

For them the words Fourth of July fireworks

will forever have a special meaning
