The End of Their Journey

While it was a sad moment when she first heard
they would soon be coming to the end of their journey of thirty some odd years
She felt like a great weight had been lifted from her shoulders and
though she was born out of the love they once shared
she soon wanted to be free of their constant fighting
His weak excuse at least in her eyes
for his part in their yelling matches was  always
“You’ll have to excuse me; I just had a bad day”
In the silent darkness of her bedroom she’d often ask herself
Who has that many bad days?
All she could think for a short while after her mother’s announcement was
It’s about time!

She’d only been begging her to leave him
since she was fifteen
Yet her mother’s responses were always
“I need him to help with you kids”
After hearing her say that she thought
“Don’t blame us for your problems”

Now that they’ve been apart for a while
they finally did the right thing for themselves
She can’t believe they stuck it out for as long as they did
Don’t get her wrong she loves both her parents very much, but
if she had any advice for anyone who is in this same situation
it would be if you’re not in love don’t make your children
pay by watching your marriage fall apart
